Darren Micheals Interview - Part 3

Part three with Sexy Author Darren Micheals...

TERRY KATE: What makes your books Erotica and not Erotic Romance?

DARREN MICHAELS: Mainly the fact that they are one encounter stories. There's not a build up of the relationship in the beginning or a continuation of the relationship.

TK: What do you feel the difference is?

DM: I think that is the difference, Erotica is about the act, where as erotic romance is about the relationship and the act and what the act means in the relationship, there is a build up to it and a continuation after it.

TK: Why not Romance? What attracts you to the moment - the encounter, why not go further?

DM: Why don't I write romance?

TK: Yes why?

DM: I am in the process of trying to write an erotic romance but when I have tried in the past, the result has not been as intended. I really wanted to write a book like this of just encounters from both perspectives. I'm working on a series of stories with the same theme from both perspectives that are longer than these stories but still erotic romance and not just romance. I like the edge that erotic romance brings to the story.

TK: So stories without the naughty parts... not really working for you?

DM: LOL, I like stories without the naughty parts, I just think that if you leave out the sex, you're leaving out an integral part of any relationship. I like writing the naughty parts, it's fun.

TK: So what is the feed back been like?

DM: Amazing! Many women are buying the book to read with their partners. Reading it together or reading it apart and then talking about it. I was told that it was a great Valentines day or anniversary gift. It is something both partners can share.

TK: Have you done any signings?

DM: I have done one, but I have a very conservative day job right now, so its a little difficult to do an erotica signing on the weekend and then go back to work Monday morning at my very conservative company. And people can always get in contact with me and send me the books to sign and send back to them.

TK: So what is this conservative job?

DM: Ha ha, I'm going to chose not to answer that, sorry. Have to keep the job that pays the bills until I hit that NYTimes Bestseller list.

TK: Hmmm... now what could it be... I guess we will just have to sit and wonder. Any deep dark secrets you got that you are willing to confess to? Stuffed bunny colection? Watch Glee on Wednesday nights?

DM: hmmmm... Actually yes to the later. GREAT show! Can't wait to see what happens with the rest of the season, and Community is hilarious as well.
And I do not have a stuffed bunny collection. Thank you. Now that I've confessed to watching Glee I think I feel a little lighter inside.

TK: Well I'm glad I could help.
DM: LOL I think I have just had a breakthrough.

TK: Well I do my best. Thank you so much for the ride in the Backseat. Maybe some day I can interview you on video. You can wear a mask. Everyone loves a secret super hero!

DM: LOL Thank you for having me I certainly hope I get to do this interview in the backseat one day and for you, I'll take off the mask.
Thank you again

Interview with Author Shelli Stevens

Terry Kate: Okay, so I opened the door to the Backseat and welcomed in the very exciting author Shelli Stevens. Shelli 2010, you ready?
 Shelli Stevens: I'm ready!

TK: Shelli what have you got coming our way as readers?

Shelli: Well, let's see. January 19th I have Four Play, an ebook novella, which is a Red Hot! romance from Samhain Publishing. Then in the summer I have two print books, Need Me from Kensington Aphrodisia, and Chances Are from Samhain. Then I also have a novella coming out from Samhain, title not set in stone yet :P

TK: Wow, you have been busy! Four Play is a provocative title, who are these four?

Shelli: Well, it's four best friends. Three men, one woman. The book is a futuristic, where men out number women. So women have duty to pick a lifemate by a certain age. My heroine is trying to narrow it down between her three best friends (the guys) and is realizing she wants them all!

TK: Oh my! What is a girl to do?

Shelli: Exactly...have a little fun deciding I suppose. ;)

TK: What was your favorite part about creating the future of the human race? I like a landscape where I get my choice of desirable men by the way, so thanks. If we visualize it enough it might just happen.

Shelli: I know, right? A world full of single men...lovely! I enjoy creating the future of the human race, because there's all kinds of possibilities, no rules necessarily. There' s a lot of freedom in it. Plus, certain romantic situations may not be as frowned upon...people might be more open-minded. Well, one would hope.

TK: What rules have your characters broken before?

Shelli: Hmm I'm not sure rules are broken necessarily. But I mean, you're not strapped into today's society standards and laws and such. You can write your own government, planet, lifestyle and such.

TK: When you write your contemporary novels what are the challenges there?

Shelli: Hmm, getting facts right. Sometimes I get a little nervous with my characters' career choice :P You know, I don't really want to completely screw up in the book. It's a lot more research. Same with historicals though (which I don't write, but love to read). I love writing contemporary though, because it's easier to let the humor slide in.

TK: In Four Play was there one hero who came to you before the others?

Shelli: No, I really knew what I wanted with my heroes. I, of course, had my favorite hero out of three. The one I knew I would've picked if I could only have one. Hee hee.

TK: Can we tempt you to share?  Who would you have chosen?

Shelli: Share which one? Hmmm. Dare I admit? Perhaps I should just say that in this book, the bad boy was really the one who caught my attention. But I go back in forth in what I love in a hero. That's why this book was so much fun. I got to have three archetypes.

TK: Do you fall for the bad boy? Is there any Hollywood hunk who lights your fire?

Shelli: You know interestingly I don't really fall for the bad boy...or no, wait, that's not entirely true. There's been a bad boy or two who've caught my interest, but because they're so bad... it doesn't last :P Hollywood Hunk, hmm? I used to lust after Joaquin Pheonix before he got all hobo-on-mushrooms like on me. Still, I can close my eyes and remember him in the movies of yesteryear....

TK: I can not wait to get my hands on your new book in the new year. What are you looking forward to in 2010?
Shelli: I'm looking forward to being healthy, writing and read lots of great books, and just having another great year.

TK: I think that is what we all are hoping for. Thank you so much for this peek into your books.

Shelli: No prob! Thanks for letting me share!

TK: Any time!  Find out more about Shelli Stevens and her books on her website www.shellistevens.com

You can read a review of her book Four Play here tomorrow.

Interview with Aislinn Kerry

Oh goody, goody, I talked the fabulous erotic author Aislinn Kerry
into the Backseat with me!  So Aislinn, have you always leaned toward the naughty side with your writing?  Does it ever worry you that Santa might stop bringing you resents?

Aislinn Kerry:  Oh, definitely not. When I first started writing, I
was painfully shy. The first love scene I wrote was a very tame
fade-to-black, and I was dreadfully self-conscious about it. It's been
a process, slowly growing more and more comfortable with more explicit scenes and stories.  As for Santa -- This year's been my best
Christmas yet, so I must be doing something right. grin

TK: Okay so I confess I almost never have read an authors book before I interview them. Spank me I know. Today however I have read Blood and Roses and I am leaning towards it being my favorite read in 2009.

Aislinn:  Wow! Thanks so much. Blood and Roses really holds a special place in my heart.

TK: If you started out shy where did the jump to male/male books like Blood and Roses come from?

Aislinn: It was a gradual corruption. I'm lucky enough to have some
fantastic writing buddies I work with, many of whom are fond of m/m romances, and their enthusiasm for it helped me discover my own interest in it. I haven't looked back since!

TK: What struck me about your writing was the unapologetic characters you create - or maybe just that they make no excuses for where life has lead them. What made you decide that a love story that features a male prostitute and a vampire would capture the reader, or what about it captured you?

Aislinn:  The part of the story that captured me is less what Arjen
and Maikel are, and more who they've become because of that.
Prostitution has made Arjen jaded, cynical, and very guarded with his emotions. And Maikel's age and the constant adoration he receives has made him terribly bored with life. Neither of them are the sort to fall head-over-heels for someone, or to bare their heart once they have. The journey of how they do so, how they do find themselves in love with one another despite everything, is really what held my fascination.

TK: I feel that many authors would give us tortured back story leading to this moment in these men's life, were you tempted?

Aislinn:  I can't say that I was. For me, the real interest of the
story lies in Arjen and Maikel and their interactions with one
another, they way they conflict with one another and work past each
other's defenses and really take one another by surprise. I have
written stories where characters had traumatic histories that were
important to the plot, but even then, I try to keep my focus on the
present, and even in those stories I tend to not reveal much of the
backstory until pretty late in the game.

TK: Why a vampire? Could they both have been human?

Aislinn:  I'm sure they could have, in another writer's hands, but I'm
a fantasy writer at heart. I'm drawn to the supernatural, the
mysterious, the things that go bump in the night. When I first started
writing, I imagined myself as a fantasy author, and was a little
startled when my mom started telling my relatives that I was going to be a great romance writer. That was back when I couldn't write a
fade-to-black love scene without blushing to the tips of my toes, and
I've since come to embrace my love of romance, but fantasy is part of my foundation and it's what I always find myself coming back to.

TK: So in the future m/f, m/m, where is the muse leading you?

Aislinn:   I'm currently finishing up the last book in a duology
that's been a lot of fun to write. M/m romance, pirates, swashbuckling, battles at sea... There's also an m/f romance about a selkie waiting to be written, and even possibly my first foray into science fiction. My list of ideas waiting to be written is a mile long, and it seems like I add to it every day. I've already got my goals and projects planned out to the end of the year, and it's going to be very busy, but I'm really looking forward to the stories that are waiting to be told.

TK: Many of your books are novellas and shorter works, does that help you get to all your ideas?

Aislinn:  Oh goodness, I don't think I'll ever get to all my ideas.
But I like the length of novellas because they let me tell a story
that's very focused on the main characters and their romance. I love
novels, too, but their greater length requires an expanded scope, with subplots and a bigger cast. I think for romance especially, novellas can give a much more intimate feel that I really enjoy.

Ultimately, though, I let the story determine the length, and I rarely
start a book with much more than a vague idea of how long it might end up being. I'm notoriously bad about predicting my own wordcounts. A book that I expected to run about 40,000 words recently turned into a 90,000 word novel on me, and I once thought that I was writing a standalone novel only to realize, as I approached the 100k mark, that it was going to take two books to tell the story. And to add insult to injury, it then turned into a trilogy!
TK: Well I must say it has been a treat to talk and a triple treat to
read your book.  I can not wait to read everything you have in the
works!   Everyone will get a chance to read my review of Blood and
Roses tomorrow.  Don't miss it here on Naughty in the Backseat.

Aislinn:  Thanks so much for having me, Terry!

Pirates and Romance with Aislinn Kerry

One of the first romances I remember reading, stolen from my mom's well-stocked shelves, was about a sailor woman and the pirate who fell in love with her. It's been more than a decade since I read that book, but I still remember it, and can cite whole passages. What is it about pirates that captures our imagination so readily? They're lawless, often ruthless, and not the sort of men I'd choose to hang out with at a coffee shop. But between the covers of a book? Oh boy. I just can't resist.

Pirates are the ultimate alpha male. Tough and strong, decisive, a natural leader -- he'd have to be, to lead his crew -- they're the epitome of many traits that make us swoon. They're independent, eschewing the strictures of society to carve their own way in life. And then there's the inherent appeal of the setting -- the open ocean, glorious sunsets, the primal struggle against nature when a storm rolls in. And personally, I think there's nothing sexier than a strong, strong-willed, independent rogue who finds himself humbled by love.

I recently
finished writing my first pirate novel, and it was just as much fun as I'd hoped it would be. Conall is everything that's made me swoon for pirates since I snuck that first novel off my mom's bookcase -- strong, competent, confident, and fiercely loyal to those who've earned it. I can't wait to introduce him to readers!

Aislinn Kerry  - http://www.aislinnkerry.com/

Okay, so you know the game, find your hot man who can not live without the sea, comment and leave me a link to his picture!  Winner gets chosen by Aislinn on Tuesday night.
I Like the Bad Guy - his scene with Johny - Jack Sparrow - where they are throwing the fan back and forth is awesome - as is the beginning of the third movie where he is evilly hanging all the pirates -
Tom Hollander
as Lord Cutler Beckett

I agree with Alix and totally forgot about his time as a pirate - James Cavezil in the Count of Monte Christo - which is an awesome awesome film I can not recommend enough.
Sure thing Jasmine -  Any boat or ocean going man counts as far as I am concerned.  I love it when a man spanks a woman in these old films and they add music and it is just good old fun and all right.  Make it John Wayne doing the spanking and I might line up myself!
Really all the hotties in Pirates of the Carribean makes this category easier!  I like me some Norrington too Yvette.  Even when he is less then clean, well often then he is too hot.  In a picture I do not have to smell whatever it is making him that dirty!

Santa's Shop

Santa's Shop -
A Naughty Free Read by Cecile Hussy
You Must be 18 or older to read this Story

Dear Santa,
I have been a good girl. I work at my job, day in, day out, without complaint. I volunteer my time at the animal shelter. I even take my niece and nephew out for ice cream once a month. Date night for my sister and her husband. All I want for Christmas is the man of my dreams. Tall, handsome, dark hair, blue eyes, gorgeous smile, funny, loving, tender, and caring. Someone who makes me laugh and laughs with me. Someone who will make me feel alive and loved. Someone who will love me with passion and make all of my wildest, sexiest dreams come true. Is that too much to ask for?
With love, hope and lots of prayers.
Layla

I was giving it a shot in the dark. It was date night for my sister and her husband; I had Lexie and Matthew.  It is that time of the year when kids are writing letters to Santa and Lexie asked me to write one too. I figured why not, what is the harm in writing one. No one will ever see it. I put it out there for old Saint Nick to see what I truly wanted for Christmas. As soon as we finished, we sealed them up, addressed them with the proper address and put them on the counter. Okay, I might have been a little too descriptive, but I wanted to make sure if I had one shot in a million, I just as soon ask for what I really wanted right. Yea, I laughed my ass off too.
It was bedtime and they loved having story time before I tucked them in. With all that done, they were sound asleep in their rooms. As I was walking out, my sister and her husband were walking in. Perfect timing.
“Layla, were the kids good?,” my sister would always ask me.
“Of course Angie, they were angels.”
I bid them good night and left for my house. The ride home was lonely, thinking of my sister and her family brought a bit of jealously. I can admit to being a little jealous; jealous that she had it all and I had nothing.
Sure, I have things in life that are important; my health, a career, a roof over my head and food on my table. For those things I am very thankful, but I feel like a part of me is missing. Looking at those kids and Angie, I knew what it was; I wanted love in my life. It has been a year since my last relationship. It had ended on a very sour note and didn’t leave me too eager to jump back into the dating pool. I did the blind dates with friend's of friends, not successful. I did the double dating, no go there. And living in a small town does not help either, because everyone knows everyone else.  I did it all and could not find him. The one. Guess I was looking too hard, so I gave up looking all together and just embraced life.
The only thing I had going for me was that I left town for a little while, there were some new faces in the community. I had big dreams that the grass was greener on the other side. However, that was so not the case. Life was okay. I graduated from college, got a good job and met a guy, Jake. I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. We moved in together after dating for a year and it was great. That is, until I found out I was not the only girlfriend he had. Apparently working late nights meant "working" on someone else.
So, I took that as my cue to come home. My parents found me a house to rent; one of their friend's son had moved out of his house and he was looking to rent it out. My Mom put the deposit down to make sure I had a place to stay. Home is where my heart belongs she would always tell me. I settled in my new house, found a job at a local accounting firm and settled back in my life.
After moving back I discovered on Saturdays in the downtown area, there was a farmers market that would open early in the morning. So one weekend, I got out of bed and headed downtown to see what it was all about. Boy, was I glad I did. While I was looking around, I accidentally bumped into this guy. I turned around to apologize and when I looked up I could not believe it, it was Devin Anderson. I had a crush on him the whole time we were in high school. He was a year ahead of me and he was the one all the girls wanted. I didn’t think he would recognize me; we were not that close in high school. Our parents were friends, but he was older than I and therefore a little out of my league. I did not expect him to remember me.
"Sorry, excuse me." With that being said, I turned around to finish shopping when I felt a hand grab my arm. I turned around to see the sexiest smile planted right on Devin's face.
"You don't know how to tell someone hey anymore?"
That voice, oh dear heavens above; apparently things did not change. My stomach felt like a million butterflies were taking flight at that moment, my knees decided to go weak and I won't even talk about lower parts of my body that decided it had been far too long.
    "It's me, Devin."
Did he really think I could ever forget what he looked like?  The man who has haunted my dreams for twelve years. "Of course I recognized you Devin. It's just... I just didn't... I didn’t think you would remember me. I mean, it has been what, almost twelve years." I felt like a damn idiot, stuttering. Not knowing what to say.
"Well I remember you Layla, our parents use to get together all the time."
Did he think he had to remind me? I remember all those times or should I say all the times he would come with them. I mean, who wanted to hang out with a lower classmate and a girl at that.
"So, how have you been? What's been going on? Where you living at these day? I heard you moved away as soon as you graduated."
Wow, the man sure had some questions and I was trying to get my head out of the gutter and clear my thoughts to answer. "I've been good. I did move out after high school. Tried my hands at a couple of things, learned a couple of things and decided home was where I belong. So, I moved into a little rental house off Cedar Street and I am staying there till I get on my own feet. How about you?"
Looking over his shoulder to see something or someone, "Maybe we could get together for lunch or something. You know, catch up?"
Did he just ask me to lunch?  Okay, hyperventilation time. "Sure, here is my number." I wrote my cell number down for him on a piece of paper I found in my purse and handed it to him. He was fixing to say something when I noticed this tall, thin gorgeous woman walking up to us.
She addressed him. "Devin, I am bored, let's go."
The smile on his face disappeared. Then he just gave me this look, I could not place it; sad, shame, disappointment; whatever it was, it did not suit him. I figured I would save him grace, "It was nice bumping into you Devin. I hope to see you around," and I turned and left wondering if he’d call or would the blond put a stop to it.

Devin was enjoying his life. He graduated at the top of class in college, owned his own consulting company, owned his own home and had a great life. Most people his age were settled down with a wife and kids, but not him. He hadn't found her yet. He was dating this woman, Melinda, but his heart was not in it. He needed to end it, but just did not know how.
It was one of his last few Saturday’s off before "Santa's Shop" opened and he wanted to enjoy it. For the past forty years, his Dad had a little shop downtown that he would convert into "Santa's Shop." His Dad would dress like Santa and have Devin working the counter collecting letters from the town children. Devin knew how much his Dad looked forward to it every year and he loved to watch the faces of the kids he saw come and go in the store. Besides seeing Santa and dropping off the letters, his Dad had tables and chairs for the kids to sit down to write the letters, wish lists or color or whatever they wanted to do. They also had tables and chairs for the parents too.
Devin decided to take Melinda to the farmers market that Saturday morning. It was a beautiful day and just maybe he could find something to redeem his affection towards Melinda. He was not even sure why they were with each other; they had only been dating for six months. When he first met her, she was everything he wanted. Or so he thought. She quickly changed her attitude and her personality; only for the worst.
Within the first fifteen minutes she was ready to go; he could tell by the way she looked down at everything. Finally, he convinced her to stay for another hour and half by bribing her with her favorite coffee shop. On their way out, Devin stopped to pick up some fresh fruit and vegetables. He was at the counter paying the clerk when he was bumped. Someone said excuse me, but when he looked around, he could not believe it when he saw her, Layla. Or was that her? She was turning away from him; without even thinking he turned to grab her arm. When he turned her around, he could not believe his eyes; it was her. He had known this woman for most of his life and probably lusted after her the whole time too. He did not think he was good enough for her then, but now, now is different. He found the courage and talked to her.
Thanks to Melinda for ruining that for him. She was not even polite to Layla. Granted she did not know her, but no hello, hi, I’m so and so; nothing. She was rude and that is one trait of hers that was really starting to piss him off. On they way home, he told her it was over.

It has been a few weeks since I ran into Devin and I have to admit that I am a little disappointed that he hadn’t called, I didn’t know his situation with the blond but I found myself wondering about it more and more. Am I that lonely or did he really stir something that deep within me? These thoughts were getting me nowhere; I just tucked them aside and went about my life. That was the easy part, now if I could just get him out of my dreams. The dreams I had in the past years were not as bad as the dreams now. Seeing him again which killed me and started the dreams hotter than ever.
It was the first Saturday of the month and it was “Santa’s Shop” grand opening day. The kids had been asking Angie all week to take them there to bring their letters. They wanted to make sure Santa got them early; so he knew they were good children. There was no way Angie was going to make it from work, to the house, then to the shop. She did the best next thing, she called me. Five minutes later, I arrived at Angie’s house to pick up the kids. Before loading the kids in the car, Lexie made sure to grab the letters. Letters in hand, we headed out the door.
Fifteen minutes to spare and not many people left in the store left me feeling very thankful. That meant no fussy children nor pushy, aggravated adults. We walked up to the counter and I was greatly surprised by who greeted us, Devin.
    “Welcome to…”…”Layla."
Wow, I had a store named after me. I couldn't help but giggle. "Devin, it is nice to see you again," I said with a snickering voice. I think our eyes were doing more talking than we were because Lexie made it known why we were there.
Clearing her throat, "Excuse me sir,"  Lexie not being shy at all, “I am here to drop off our letters to Santa. Can you please make sure he gets them.”
This is what the job was all about to Devin, “Sure can, I will even stamp them myself.”
That was all Lexie needed hear. “Thank you very much sir. Are you one of Santa’s helpers?,” Lexie wanted to know, just to make sure.
Devin gave her his biggest smile, “I sure am.”
“Okay, thank you very much.” Now she turned her attention to me. “Nana Layla, we can go now, that man said he would make sure Santa gets our letters," Lexie stated as she tugged on my hand.
“Wait,” Devin quickly looked down at the letters to get the little one’s name, “Ms. Lexie, would you like to color something for Santa. We have a lot of different things on the tables over there. I am sure your brother would love to color something too.” He was buttering up Lexie to stay. But why?  I was sure Ms. Tall, Blond and Gorgeous was waiting for him at home.
Lexie looked up to me, “Nana Layla, do you mind if we color a picture for Santa, please.” She knew how to make my heart melt.
“Devin, are you sure. I know you are about to close in a few minutes.”  I was trying to give him an out to having to stay late. No one liked staying late for work. He walked over to the window and flipped the sign to “CLOSED” and locked the door. “Now, you have the shop all to yourselves,” Devin announced. That made Lexie’s day.
While they colored, we sat at the adult tables and chit chatted. “Thank you for letting them color Devin, you didn’t have to.”
“Are you kidding me, I love doing this,” he responded with a  hitch in his voice. His eyes were telling me a different story than just usual chit chat. His ran his fingers around the collar of his shirt, I began to wonder how those fingers would feel running along my thighs.
Finished with their coloring, it was time to go. I had to pull my thoughts together and out of the gutter, I had to muster up enough clear emotion to say good-bye. “It was nice catching up with you Devin.” Even though we did not talk about life altering things, it was nice to just sit and talk to someone who was older than 7 year olds.
I went to grab Lexie and Matthew’s hand to walk outside when I heard him say, “Layla, would you like to have supper with me this evening?”
I almost choked. “Devin, I um… I don’t know if that is a good idea.” And with that he gave me a puzzled look. Was his woman a figment of my imagination? “What about your lady friend you had with you the last time I saw you?” You could see the look of recognition register on his face.
“Oh, her. Yea, well, she moved on with her life.”
“Oh, in that case, that would be great.” What the fuck was she thinking walking away from a guy like this. Whatever, her lost. We worked out the details and left the store. I brought the kids home to Angie and Doug. Then I went home to get ready for the date of my life.

Devin locked the door behind Layla as she left. He was excited to clean up and pick up the letters so he could go get ready for his date with Layla. How long had he waited for a night like this. He was besides himself. He cleaned up the tables and went to the counter to pick up the letters that Layla’s niece and nephew had dropped off when he noticed it. It was a letter to Santa, but it was from Layla. Should he read it or should he put it with the rest of the Santa letters? He tucked the letter in his back pocket for later. He deposited the other letters where they needed to go and locked up the shop. It was time to go home.
When Devin got there, he opened the fridge and took out a beer. It was a long day and the night was only going to get better. He was emptying his pockets to take a shower when he felt the envelope. He took the letter out and just stared at it for a few minutes. Should he read it? What harm would there be in knowing what Layla wanted from Santa?  With that thought, he decided to open it. He started to read the letter and his mouth hit the counter. He could not believe what he was reading. She was looking for a man. Not just any man, she listed exactly what she wanted in that man. And since it was a letter to Santa Claus, he imagined she wanted it all. How much could he fulfill he wondered. Now he was nervous. He had a sneak peek into her personal world and he liked what he saw. But what would she say if she knew he peeked.
How could he look at her in the same way; knowing some of her most private thoughts. He knew he had to tell her before he saw her tonight. He decided to the gentleman thing and call her. Just to clear the air about it. That was it, that was his story and he was sticking to it. So, he dialed her number and waited.
“Hello.” Her sexy, sultry and husky voice answered the phone and he was lost for words.
“Layla, this is Devin” Silence. Devin could swear he could hear the crickets in the background, that was how quiet it was.
“Hey Devin, I thought you were coming over.” She sounded lost.
Devin had to think quick, he could feel he her confusion, “I um, I was calling to say that um… I was not sure if you were aware that (no guts, no glory was in his head) you had a letter to Santa in the batch with Lexie and Matthew‘s letter.” Silence again, damnit.
“Oh damnit to hell. Devin, um, please tell me you did not deposit mine into the sea of letters for your Dad?”
He could almost see her blushing on the other end of the phone. “No, of course not. That is why I am calling you. I was not sure this was meant for him.”
Whew, “Good, because it was meant for a Santa alright, just not that Santa.”
Disappointment filled his heart, what if she was seeing someone and this was her way of telling him what she wanted from him. But then why did she accept dinner with him? Well, if they were too dumb to see what was right in front of them, then they were the stupid ones. If you don’t take chances in life, how will you ever get anything. Here he goes, “Did you have a certain Santa in mind? Because I happen to know a Santa that would love to fulfill those wishes?” Please let her say yes, please let her say yes, please let her say yes.
“Well, if you happen to know one, why don’t you tell me where I might find this Santa. I would love to sit on his lap and tell him all my wishes for Christmas,” her voice was getting him harder by the minute.
“I tell you what, if you are a good girl, I will let you sit on my lap and you can tell me all your hearts desire.” This is too good to be true Devin thought. This can’t be happening.

I was getting hot at just the idea of Devin being my very own Santa. What was I to say to that. I mean I know we hadn’t talked in a long while. We were two consenting adults. Things like this happened in the real world. You know what, I have lead a pretty straight forward life, what is wrong with taking a chance every once in a while. Having a fling, if that was what this was. I am the one that is always taking it slow, playing it careful, always going by the book. Well, I have been screwed over so many times by being the nice one all the time, what is wrong with me being the “bad” girl. And sometimes, we only get one chance, right? And this is a man I had wanted for a very long time.
Okay, ready. “Tell you what Devin, why don’t you come over to my place and we will see what Santa can do for me?” Holy shit, I actually said it out loud.
“You sure about this Layla,” I could hear the concern in his voice; that touched me.
“Yes, I am sure Devin. If you want to be my Santa that is, I would love to have you… over.” I put my best bedroom voice on. Let’s see what his call is going to be. I think that was so sweet of him to ask me if I was sure. Giving me the option to call it quits on the game we are playing. But there was no backing down now. I was invested up to my ass in this and wanted it more than anything.
“I am coming right over,” Devin was nearing panting the words out. “I’ll see you in about fifteen minutes.”
Wow, I never asked him where he lived, but it must be close to me. Well, I better hurry and change; at least into something a little sexier than lounge clothes. Now that the “date” had changed, the clothing needed to be appropriate too. I also polished off the glass of wine I was sipping on, just for a little bit of extra courage. Shit, is that the door bell… damnit . He must have done a hundred the whole way here. Well, I will just have to greet him like this, black lace panties and matching bra.
Devin rang the door bell. When I opened the door, his reaction was priceless. His mouth hit the floor. I reached out to grab his hand, I did not want to stand in front of my front door clad only in my best undies. I couldn’t help but notice his hands were sweaty, his stomach was making strange noises and from the wide eyed look on his face, his heart had to be beating a thousand beats a minute. Obviously he had no idea what to expect when I opened the door. I almost laughed at his lost expression but one look south halted my reaction.
“Darlin‘, this only happens in my dreams. Never have I ever envisioned any woman answering the door in just her lingerie, looking this hot.”
Devin came straight towards me, wrapped his arms around my waist, closed the door with his foot and twirled me around and shoved me up against the door. His eyes found mine. He wanted to make sure I still wanted this, whatever this was. He was looking for something to tell him no. He saw nothing but a mirror of his own desire. Both of us silently agreeing. Devin’s mouth immediately sought mine out. He kissed with his own accord. He was sweet and tender, then rough and passionate. His hands worked all along my back, up and down. My hands were framing his face and my fingers found their way to his hair.
“You sure you want this Layla. I would never do anything you do not want me to do.” Obviously Devin was attempting to get out in one sentence, but couldn’t. “I know we have known each other for a long time, but not really known each other…” He was trying to make sense.
I didn’t want to make sense, “Devin,” I was trying for the life of me get this out but my body was overriding my thinking and my lips kept founding his making it hard to talk. “the bedroom is to your left.”
No further instructions were needed. He picked me up and carried me in his arms into my bedroom. He went to lay me on the bed and started getting undressed. I took that moment to sit up. He must have thought something was wrong, because his eyes went wide. “Nothing is wrong, but remember I told you I was going to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him all I desired.”
His eyes relaxed and he smiled that gorgeous smile of his. I was already wet from his kissing, that smile just melted my sex even more.
“Instead, I’m going to sit on Santa’s lap and show him all my wildest desires.”
Devin’s smile could not have gotten any bigger if he had Mick Jagger’s lips.
“Oh really, so what is it you want to show me? Have you been a naughty girl or a good girl?”
“Oh Santa, I think I have been very naughty. Allow me to show you just how naughty I have been.”
As he finished undressing, I allowed him to get seated on the edge of my bed before I straddled his lap facing him. He rested his palms on my waist, not knowing exactly what to do first. I bent down and trailed my tongue against his bottom lip. It was begging for attention. Then I nipped at it with my teeth, biting it softly. I heard him hiss as I did that and I also felt his cock rise another notch up. If that was possible. I kissed him sweetly on the nose, working my way past his checks to his ears. I could feel his hands softly going up and down my back, he was getting there.
“Santa, what do you do with naughty girls,” I whispered in his ear on raged breath.

Interview with Editor Lori Perkins of Ravenous Romance

Terry Kate: Okay I know I am the luckiest girl around to snag Lori Perkins for the Backseat not once, but twice. She is Literary Agent extraordinaire and Editor for up and coming publisher Ravenous Romance.  You can read her agent interview coming soon.
Lori Perkins: Thanks for asking me to join you twice.
TK: Now I have a few questions for you while you are wearing your editor hat. What does your editor hat look like?
LP: It's a little leopard pillbox number.
TK: Well I get to wear my interview/information investigator fedora so we are well matched in headgear greatness.
 LP: What an image!
TK: I try.  (Smile)   So Ravenous, you are growing and growing all the time! Where are you going from here?  What are you hungry for?  I could not resist that one I am a cheese ball.
LP: Well, let's describe "here" first. We just celebrated our one year anniversary. We published 140 books and another 80 original short stories. We're the only romance publisher to sell our books on Home Shopping Network (go to HSN and type in Escape to Romance for a great 6 book deal at $19.95). We've sold the reprint rights to a third of our titles. One of our titles has been nominated for a Lambda and another for a Romantic Times Best Indie Erotic Romance Award. So, I think we've done pretty well to establish ourselves in one year during a recession.
What are we looking for? The three categories that sell through the roof are M/M. paranormal and kinky, so send us your paranormal kinky M/ novels! Seriously.
We also do about 15 in-house anthologies and put out a call for short stories or novellas on the  ravenousromance.blogspot.com website. Many of our novelists started out by writing short stories for us.    And we pay advances as an epublisher for both novels and short stories.
What I am looking for? Shapeshifters, ghosts, pirates, time travel, threesomes. We're brainstorming over the Xmas break and will put a call up by New Year's Eve, so watch that blog. We come up with about half the novel ideas in-house and either assign them or post a call. We are a GREAT place for new writers.
TK: Wait you pay advances?!?   Did I just read you pay advances?
LP: Yes. In the tradition of Anais Nin's "collector," every novel receives a $200 advance (that's about a dollar a page as our novels run about 50,000 words or 200 pages), and every short story gets $10. Novellas are $25. We pay 35% royalties too.
TK: Who master minded the shear genius idea to work with the Home Shopping Network?

LP: Holly Schmidt, our publisher. Holly is really a marketing guru and she knew some people who knew some people.

TK: Honestly the scope of the greatness of that idea is kick ass! Have you guys been happy with the results?
LP: Yes. We've sold thousands of books in minutes. And gained a whole new readership. And extended the brand in ways we couldn't have imagined.
Romance publishing is just so exciting right now. It's one of the few fields that is growing, so one of the few genres willing to take risks and innovate. I LOVE cross genre romances.
TK: So Ravenous Romance, are we talking Erotica, Erotic Romance? Am I guarantied a Happily Ever After or Happy For Now ending?
LP: HEA or HFN, even in the threesomes and kinkier stuff.
TK: As an editor do you feel the need for that as much as I do as a reader?
LP: I love a book that gets my heart racing and then brings me to tears. I love to be swept off my feet, but I also love the chase, which is why the paranormal romances appeal to me. And I love a really bad boy.
TK: One who's only weakness is the heroine. Sigh...
 LP: Yep.
TK: I know you said you are brainstorming over the Holiday, but any ideas for the beginning of the new year how may books we can expect?
LP: We're doing about the same number of books next year. I think we have 12 new titles slated for January.
I have a call out for M/M werewolf novellas. We'll be doing an in-house anthology titled FANG BANGERS about love with anything with fangs and/or claws.  In the next few days we're publihing DUSK, an adult version of Twilight by a New York Times best-selling author writing under a pseudonym.
And for Christmas, we're publishing THE 12 HOT DAYS OF CHRISTMAS and I SAW DADDY KISSING SANTA CLAUS.
TK: I saw Daddy, I like that.
LP: It is so much fun!   I love this job. And the give and take with the authors is great.

TK: So how long should a submission be for the Fang Bangers anthology?  And how far do you tend to read into it before saying yes, no, or maybe so?
LP: Anywhere from 1500 to 5,000 words.  I read the whole thing. Some times I send it back for rewrite, if the idea is strong, but the execution needs work. or it needs more sex.
TK: Life always needs more sex as does literature.
 LP: Yes, yes.

TK: Ever send something back saying it is too steamy?
LP: Only in HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE, our zombie romance anthology. There is a line there you shouldn't cross, and I leave that up to the imagination.
TK: So I can not thank you enough for this inside peek into RR! I am very excited to congratulate you on your first year as I round out the same on my site. May year two teat us even better!
LP: Yes, and what an interesting year it was!
Terry Kate: To 2010 then and thanks again for all your time!!!
Lori Perkins: Yes, to 2010! I'm anxious to see what this decade brings.

Sexy Sunday - Tall, Dark and Dangerous with Kim Knox

Maybe he's the starkly beautiful man with the secret past, hunted and maybe just that little bit crazy.  Or the man who has a mission and nothing and no one will stand in his way.  Nobody crosses him.  Well, crosses him and lives to tell about it.  Now you have to deal with him.  He watches you, his eyes narrow and you you're not certain whether its the frisson of fear...or desire.
Yes, I can't resist those tall, dark and dangerous heroes.  I had him stamped on my brain early in life.  They draw you to them and you can't resist.  They're wicked like that.  My first TDD crush was Kerr Avon from Blake's 7.  He was a criminal genius and had no qualms about killing his enemies...or his friends.  We won't talk about how he met his end.  It ruined my Christmas when I was twelve... ;-)

The echo of Avon has stayed with me.  Clever, charming and ruthless, he's a hero I love to write any chance I get. From a fae wanting to break his curse in Ruthless Beauty, a vampire under orders to protect his mother's throne whatever the cost in Consort, to a mysterious stranger who may or may not planning to kill the heroine in Lost Gods, tall, dark and dangerous heroes are an addiction.
Win Ruthless Beauty by Kim Knox

Rachel Sutherland loves control—her job, her life and the men who pass fleetingly through. Yet she aches for someone who doesn’t care about who she is, who would take her for his pleasure and hers. Shame that man is only a fantasy.
Jareth is a fae, bound to the mortal realm by a curse, and he needs Rachel. His curse has always meant a woman’s pleasure must come before his own, but to break his curse he must force a woman to submit to his needs. Rachel is that special woman, one found after centuries of searching.
Now Jareth forces her to find pleasure in ways Rachel never thought she could. A pleasure that could prove more dangerous than she ever believed possible.
Reader Advisory: Is deliciously wicked forced seduction your fantasy? Then prepare to sizzle as a sinfully handsome fae works his sensual magic in Ruthless Beauty. Synopsis from Ellora's Cave.com

Hi all, there are too many options on this one so I had a tough time picking - leave a link to your choice to enter to win.  Keanu Reeves in Constantine.  I honestly enjoy this movie every time I watch it.

Missy Chose one of my faves though I love him most as Riddick!  He rules.
Teresa, Nice choice!  - Everyone knows this movie! Only choosing just ONE Talk Dark and Deadly, well, that's difficult. :D  I think most girls will agree and he did a good job hosting Saturday Night Live

Michelle I am not going to claim to know who this is but if he lights your fire he is in the running for Tall Dark and Dangerous

How about this? I love David Boreanaz (as Booth on Bones), but for the purpose of this post -let's call him Angel. - From Hailey -- Girl way to kick it with a bad-ass good guy vampire for tall - check - dark - check - and dangerous- triple check there.

Jason Stratham from the Transporter series. He looks wonderful half naked and carries a suit in his trunk. I love a bad ass sharp dressed man.
Kristy   -----  I agree with you the boy is built, I am curious if he really is tall.  After all it is Hollywood and their apple boxes.

Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne And Mel Gibson in Payback are Rie McGaha's choices.  Mighty fine - mighty fine.

Okay - Dani nominated a number of boys.  I never got past picture one - Mr Ryan Reynolds - this would be my choice if I were picking the winner, but I am not so it is alright if I share preference for some RR time.

Well Tarl he certainly is dark -  "Rufus Sewell in "Dark City" a SciFi that is highly underrated. He has tons of charisma, and plenty of range. You've probably seen him in a few things...The Illusionist, Helen of Troy, A Knight's Tale." - Tarl

Embracing Midnight by Devyn Quinn Book Review

Embracing Midnight
by Devyn Quinn

Undercover FBI agent Callie Whitten is tracking an outlaw like no other: Iollan Drake. And one hot night she finds him – and finds the ultimate in extreme sexual pleasure in his arms. Callie craves more. And more…But Iollan Drake has a lethal secret: he is a vampire, drawing his passionate strength from blood energised by sexual arousal. He in turn craves Callie. She is beautiful and yielding – and utterly fearless. Compelled to brand her as his own, wrapped in darkness, he whispers to her. Give me your soul, Callie. And your body. I will have you! She hears…and she obeys…

 Embracing Midnight
Review by Lucia
3.5/5 Whips

The main characters in Embracing Midnight left a lot to be desired and the story, while developed, sophisticated and detailed, was wholly unbelievable and entirely out of this realm. The story begins on an FBI stake out, of a suspected pimp and sex trader, the story develops into something completely different.
I would have accepted the sexual vampire story.  I could have accepted the alien life force story.   Both together?  Not so much. Combined with a government conspiracy and some international espionage, as well as a ring of sexually sadistic slayings, it became too much.

Parts of the book became extremely uncomfortable to read, one of which was the rape scene and others being scenes involving other members of the government conspiracy. The story felt like it needed to simmer down, it needed time to reduce.
The two main characters I came to feel a significant amount for.  I wanted to help them, I wanted them to succeed.  However everything else in the story became too much and it overpowered the relationship between the two of them.  Their story became lost in the sea of this ever-growing story around them. Combine that with a pseudo rape scene, Embracing Night made this reader want something more and or better for the hero and heroine.  Overall I did enjoy the book, I just wished that many parts of it were different, or were not nearly as involved or convoluted as they became.

Sexy Sunday - Vamps with Devyn Quinn

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with vampires. Though I can’t recall the age in which I discovered vampires, I do recall the first actor to make an impression in the title role of Dracula: Jack Palance. At the time I didn’t know who the actor was. And I didn’t care. I was just hooked on vampires. And there were lots of them, on the big screen and the small, fulfilling my fantasies of being swept off my feet by a sexy dark stranger with a lust for necks. Didn’t matter that old Drac might be long in the tooth or maybe a few centuries too old for me. I literally lived for vamps, immersing myself in the legend and the lore.

So when it came time to start writing my own books (and that’s a whole other story there) the one thing I definitely wanted to try my hand at was the immortal bloodsucker. Since I find myself disliking the idea of the vampire being undead (uh, creepy) I decided to branch off and create my own lore. That’s why Iollan Drake, the vampire hero of my book, Embracing Midnight, is quite a different species of vampire. What kind is he? Well, I won’t give up too many of his secrets in this short paragraph. Suffice to say, Iollan is tall, dark and handsome, with a particular thirst for blood…

Who is your favorite blood sucking sweety?  Leave a link to the photo and I will post it here.  You are entering to win a copy of Embracing Midnight by Devyn Quinn.  To find out more check out her book at Amazon.com or Devyn Quinn's site http://www.devynquinn.com

I tried not to pick anyone too obvious for myself but there are so many options out there I felt fair in choosing this one.   Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampire.

Michael Nominated some girl on girl Vampire action.  Thanks for the male input.

Gary Oldman - the sexiest most talented guy to play a vampire - or one of them - I agree with A.E. Rought in that choice.

Doni Nominates the the Hotty from TV's Moonlight

Have to be Spike from Buffy the vampire slayer...though not much of a vamp chick (prefer wolves myself and not the ones from Twilight) but given a choice it's Spike and Angel definitely.....  From Angelle

Going old school with this one!  Greta choice Leigh.  Not 100% sure I want him coming through my window!

Peach likes Frank Langella's Dracula from the 70's

Bruce's choice of the night - two boys playing along - what fun.

Nicole Zoltack's choice from the new Vampire Diaries show.  Did you see the episode when he has his shirt off?  The boy is ripped!  It was almost too hot.

OMG!  I love Stuart Townsend.  He is so cute - and he gets to be with Charlize Theron who I have seen in real life and is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.  From Queen of the Damned - thanks Alix

This boy is soooo sexy!  Thanks for the picture Cecile.  I had not realized he was fanged in a previous film.  Must check it out.

Floy went with Spike from Buffy or Alice from Twilight, since spike is up above here is Alice who is one mad hot chica - I included her IMDB shot below cause in the movies she is wearing a wig!

Can I get some of the genes that she got?
Please?

Okay, I love Spike and Angel, sure, but Stefan....oh yeah. Gotta go with him.  Thanks Lynn!  I loved the parts where he was topless.
So I had to share a shot - sorry it is so dark.

I tried not to pick the most obvious choices and so I am glade that Veronica Blake finally mentioned the Hotty who brought me over to Team Edward and got me to look at the books.  I am embarrassed to confess my new obsession.  It is why I have been offline all day indulging in some reading.

Rie McGaha - , I have to say my very favorite is Geraint Wyn Davies who stared as Nick Knight in the series Forever Knight.
I confess to never having been a follower of the show but NetFlix here I come!

I vote for Kyle Schmid who played Henry Fitzroy in the Blood Ties adaptation of Tanya Huff's urban fantasy vampire novels. I love me some Henry.  Michelle Polaris - yum choice indeed.  I am not familiar but I will keep my eyes open now

I have also had a fascination with vampires for as long as I can remember. I love vampire fiction, and have an extensive book collection to prove it! It's hard for me to pick one that's my favorite, because there are so many! Probably the first one I remember being enamored with was Ben Cross as Barnabas Collins in the 90s revival of the series Dark Shadows. He was older, distinguished, enigmatic, frightening, and sexy all at once. I grew to love Angel and Spike on Buffy, and of course Mick St. John from Moonlight. There's just something about a broody, fangy guy that revs my engine! - From Christie Gray

Interview with Michelle Polaris

Terry Kate: I would like to welcome to the Backseat futuristic, erotic, and very, very sexy author Michelle Polaris.

Michelle Polaris: Thanks, Terry. I am thrilled to be here and hopefully will thrill your readers as well (grin).

TK:  So I have to say I was thrilled with your book which is your debut. We have two very sexy men and a lady. Makes for a hot story set in a sadly environmentally hot future.

MP: Thank you. Bound Odyssey is my first attempt at romantic erotica and I loved every minute spent writing it. The story centers around three very alpha characters. A female dominatrix, another sexy southern gentleman who is a sexual switch, and the stubborn, alpha male cowboy diplomat who they have to "train" in the ways of submission. That it takes place in the year 2067 when the world is self-destructing around them only ups the tension between this intense but delicious threesome. I fell in love with each of these characters as I wrote them.

TK: So frankly there is some political, environmental undertones to the story, so tell the truth, if it is yellow do you let it mellow?

MP: Only in the middle of the night (LOL) when flushing toilets wake the kiddies. I try hard to live an environmentally responsible life. Our cars are small and gas efficient and the theromostat is turned as low as we can bear in the winter. And we recycle as much as possible. Not compulsive about it, but we try. However, my husband is mister pessimism, so looming environmental disaster is inevitable in his book (sigh). I'm very thankful to have written my characters a way out of their own environmental disasters.

TK: So what made you decide that BDSM culture would be the salvation of humanity?

MP: (Big grin). Doesn't sound so likely, huh. At the time the story came to me I'd been reading some BDSM romantic erotica and the lifestyle fascinated me. From my understanding of it there was a certain emotional truth to the relationships that I didn't always get in other stories. I also loved reading powerful female characters and new there was less female dominant characters in the BDSM romances in print. My mind started percolating around and tried to figure out what would make it crucial for a strong alpha male character to be forced into a situation where we must confront his own submissive tendencies. I am a fantasy and sci-fi reader by nature and I love world building. So the post-apocalytpic setting was a no brainer and I loved the challenge of creating a believable earth future where the environment was on a fast pace to collapse. My husband is a scientist, so he helped me create an interesting scenario to trigger the destruction. I also love intense characters and you can't get too much more intense than BDSM in the sexual scenario department. All of this added together to end in my story question. What would happen if the only hope for our salvation was to travel through a portal to a parallel world where the predominant culture was one of female domination, including in all business and cultural interactions. How would our male dominated earth society cope and who would they get to do the negotiation to make emmigration successful to this new world? I was fascinated with the challenge. And out popped Mira, Jace and Roman, the heroine and two heroes respectively, to struggle through the task of preparing for the diplomatic challenge of a lifetime. Salvation through submission. Maybe I should get a bumper sticker printed (laugh).

 TK: I want one!

MP: I'll let you know when I get them in (grin).

TK: So maybe not the most feasible future, and yet the political aspects worked in are excellent. Now in a future short on food and fresh produce, what would you miss the most?

MP: Fresh berries and all of the tropical fruits. Environmental cataclym tends to put the cabosh on a lot of imports. I imagine coastal flooding may also decimate sugar crops so not a lot of sweets. I'm groaning thinking about the potential loss of chocolate as a staple in my diet. At the same time, with weather patterns in complete disarray, the bread basket may also dry up. No wheat? There's nothing better than fresh bread. This would be a complete disaster. I'm getting depressed just thinking about it and I dreamed up the story to begin with. We better find this parallel world fast (LOL).

TK: So will there be any more books in this world or will you boldly go on to new worlds from here?

MP: Both. I've begun a sequel that takes place on the parallel world itself and includes the characters from Bound Odyssey. But it also features the love story between three brand new characters. Two men from the new world and one earth woman who appears as a secondary character in Bound. Guess the BDSM threesome is an ongoing theme of mine. Having said this, I can't finish this new story until I complete a short male/male BDSM novel I'm writing. That story opens during an erotic magic show in Las Vegas and has some fantasy elements. Look for Jesse and Savin, my heroes from this book, in the future.

TK: You tease! Are you in the closet about what you write?

MP: I'm coming out of the closet more and more every day (LOL). Actually, I did choose a pen name to preserve my secret identity. But most of the important folks in my life do know. If erotic romance authors all have secret identites like the best of the superheroes, then we all deserve erotic romance super powers. I'm planning on blogging on this topic very soon, so start dreaming up your special power if you were to be an erotic romance superhero. Heck, even if you're an erotic romance reader too.

TK: What color cape do you have?

MP: Black. And it's leather of course. All to go with the boots. I'd call myself Wonder Whip Woman, but whoever has the copyright on Wonder Woman might get upset (grin). Although I do feature her and Batman in the Bound Odyssey story. I really liked writing that part of the dialogue.

TK: I have had many a fantasy featuring the bat. Sigh...  We can find out more about Mechelle Polaris's book on her site  http://michellepolaris.com/. and read the review of her book here on Naughty in the Backseat.  Thanks Michelle!

Michelle Polaris: Thank you, Terry. I had a lot of fun here. I hope your readers do check out Bound Odyssey. It was one of those stories of my heart, believe it or not, and Mira, Jace and Roman are quite a kick. Take care of yourself.

 Terry Kate: I try.
